So i'm back in Oz and have been now for almost 48hours..
yesterday i could have sworn i was jet lag free, but since i've now been awake since 330am this morning, maybe i was too quick to think that..
maybe i've just been thinking about too many things
funny thing happened at the airport when i arrived, was walking towards the luggage carousel and heard my name being called... and when i looked over it was one of my best friends from high school, she'd been on the same flight back from tokyo... and we hadn't realised it..
so we had a good catch up while trying to pass through customs..
sadly the illegal jar of stuffed olives exploded in my bag causeing everything to be coated in olive flavoured oil.. and i had to throw them out before i even got to the custom people... shame they looked really delicious!
but the guinness managed to survive... alcohol will always survive!
isn't it always the way that when you carefully wrap things in plastic bags in the case of a breakage...that the only thing not wrapped explodes!
the drive home was interesting, not a lot has changed but looking around made me feel like a tourist in my own city.
walking in the door to the house was crazy i just stood in the dining room and looked around and realised how huge our house actually is...
the house is like the size of the entire accomodation block in preston..
the walk in pantry my mum decided she had to have, was almost the size of my room in preston which i found amusing..
my cat ran away from me at first... took one look, and shot out the door like a rocket...
but she's come around and i have the scratches and cat fur all over me to match...
and i've become the seat for the other one, again... (i make the best nest!)
i headed out into town to do some last minute xmas shopping, which was hilarious..
i didn't drive too much in the uk, but when i did i must have concentrated so hard in getting the indicators right, that it's in my subconscious now (they're on the opposite sides over there)
all afternoon i had the windscreen wipers going and not indicating... amusing..
ran into a few people i knew while i was out, and had some funny encounters..
one funny thing was when someone talked in a broad aussie accent i automatically spun around to look... then thought you idiot you're in Australia now, of course there's going to be australians about!
i guess when you've been traveling and being in out of the way places where aussie accents are few and far between you're going to have a reaction to hearing it..
walking through the local Plaza was like stepping back in time everything was where it should be, and was insane to just see so many shops inside! the uk has them all outside and they don't generally have to many shopping malls like we do here...
I feel like an intruder that doesn't belong here now..
i no longer feel as though this is my home.. i know even if i do come back to live in OZ some time in the future, i wont live at home, i was talking to a friend and even said when i get home (refering to the uk) which actually surprised me, it is my home over there now.
i keep looking at all the things in my room (which looks interesting, as all the walls got taken out so it passed the council inspection, and all my stuff has been moved and obviously looked through..
i have so much stuff, i think before i leave i need to have a massive clean out of everything, because there's things that i'll neave use again, or wear again, and i think i'm used to living from a pack... having only what i need..
though it was awesome to have drawers of clothes to choose from!
I've fallen in love with my bed though from the moment i jumped on it...
and the whole having more than one pillow, and once that wasn't encased in hard plastic like the hospital ones!
and the shower... it was awesome, though i did have to remove this giant dead spider from the drain before i could use it and wade through the cobwebs as well..
and just even looking in the pantry had me smiling, all those known brands,
WEETBIX... NOT WEET-A-BIX!
Cheesels
twisties
rice crackers
just random every day items...
i cant wait to go to a supermarket!
Got to have a mouthful of diet vanialla coke, and i moaned in ecstasy which was pretty funny
Christmas morning when i awoke it felt really weird getting up and having to walk a good 5 m to the door, i actually stopped after 2 steps, before realising i still had a long way to go!
cooked breakfast which was also and experience trying to find things in cupboards etc, though it was nice to make things and not have it stuck to the pan!
got one of those electronic photo frames, which i've actually been eyeing off, in all the duty free shops for the last few months, which will be awesome.. and it's small enough to take with me
along with a whole heap of other non usable items...
my evil granma gave me the largest collection of "crap" that's going straight to a charity shop... i know it's the thought that counts but still... why give someone who you know is leaving the country again in a few week, copious amounts of things she doesn't need/use? seriously!
christmas lunch was an adventure, the weather rivaled the uk! with it being 15 degrees and overcast.. with speckles of rain... i was slightly disappointed that the sun failed to make an appearence... sorry guys it seems the bad weather followed me!
but looking ahead on the weather reoprt, we're in for a few 29+ degrees later this week, so all is not lost...
at least it didn't snow i the uk!
catching up with all my relatives was good in most respects... my cousins getting excited with only a week to go until we head to NZ...
There's one thing thats interesting and sad at the same time...
i went into my brothers old room and it's exactly the same as when i left, like they've just closed the doors, and left it as it is... i know packing it up and throwing things out might feel like erasing a memory... but it's made me feel eerie, and queer...
so not quite sure what to make of that
anyways it's like 6am... and it's light outside, how good is that! none of this dark till 830am, and dark again at 1500! this light almost all day is fantastic... now we just need the sun to make an appearance and all will be right in the world
hope everyone had a fantastic christmas, and got lots of good presents, ate lots of yummy food, cause it's xmas, and calories don't count at xmas!

merry xmas ali! must be such a weird bittersweet feeling being back home. so many mixed emotions! once you leave i think it's like you're never quite home anywhere... oz tugged at the heartstrings last visit but it didn't feel like home anymore.. uk feels like home to me now, but there's part of me that will never 100% belong. yikes.
I didn't know you were coming home then heading straight back again. I have unfortunately failed miserably in my mission. Merry Christmas babe.
