After being up for hours this morning i never went back to bed, and having it light since 5am, setting of the washing machine at 7am seemed normal, until i realised that it was really early and a public holiday where people would love to be in bed asleep, not listening to the whoosh whooosh of the washing machine... oops.
now it's 2am again and i'm up again...
what is it about Aussies and walking around barefooted... i went to my old work yesterday to pick up a friend for lunch, and as i was sitting in the car waiting for her to show up outside A&E, about 10 people had walked past barefooted... they were going into a hospital of all places...
only in OZ!
i've always been an outdoorsy person myself and wearing shoes was never a strong point... but into a hospital... mmmm wouldn't see that in the uk
i remember the weird looks i'd get in the uk whenever i attempted to go barefoot... there was the time at the beach in edinburgh... it was sunny, and beachy, who doesn't take of their shoes at the beach to walk in the sand.... yet it was like i was spraying graffitti on the wall or something the looks i got...
then there were the times at preston where i'd run down to the laundry without shoes on, always got bizarre looks...
maybe the brittish don't like their feet!
there's nothing better that walking around barefoot.
since i've been here i've been in thongs/jandels/flipflops what ever you want to call them or barefoot the entire time... i love being able to walk on the long grass, with the crunchy feeling of grass beneath my feet as appose to the squishy feeling of wet ground, the burning sensation of walking along the pavement on a hot day having you hop from foot to foot in order not to be forever melted to the pavement....
i love the fact that the sun is actually warm... though after about 30sec out in it i feel like i'm burning already!
its not always overcast and miserable as they make out in the uk, there is the occasional delicious blue sky and sunshine...but it'll be 10 degrees...the sun might be there but it just doesn't feel warm at all...
i feel like i'm in a movie...
so many things are the same here, yet it's all different and its like i'm seeing it for the first time.
i feel at times like i've never left, then at others it feels as if i've been gone for years..
it's weird, kind of disconnected and connected at the same time...
extremely hard to explain
mabe just lost, and floating... i really don't belong anywhere... weird!
ive got itchy feet already as i'm not doing a lot.. it's weird all the other holidays i've been on have been full on, with hardly ever a day off to just do nothing even the weekends i was always off on sme little adventure... thankfully i head off for New Zealand next wednesday so then it'll be more of the go go go that i'm used to. i feel like i should be trying to spend more time with my folks... but we really aren't interested in the same things, and never really have anything to talk about... it's just really trying being in their company.. am going 4WD possibly tommorrow with Col in the good old Aussie bush, which could be kind of fun, and a laugh of a day.
and mstly just catching up with all the people i haven't seen for the last 13 months..
been told to think up something exciting to do for New Year too... thought about heading into the city for the fireworks and then to the beach for the sunrise, but is it really worth it, we could spend the night comfortable and watch the fireworks on tv, and have a toilet at our disposal and not have to worry abour how to get home etc..
whats everyone else doing to welcome in 2008?
