Up before dawn and on the bus and way at 7am..
Headed South to Tarifa, a smallish Spanish town on the southernmost coast of the country.
Arrived at 1130am with a quick check in we were off to the Port to catch the ferry over to Tangier (Morocco)
One of the optional activities on the tour was to spend the afternoon in Morocco, never one to say no to such an adventure and to tick another country off my list.
Arrived into Tangier at 12pm Moroccan time (-2hrs behind Europe) we were greeted by our guide who shuffled us on to this bus and we were off.
It was definitely very touristy, with him being fluent in 4 languages and doing the tour in all four as well.
First stop was by the side of the road where we had the opportunity to ride a camel for a bargain price of 1 euro…
you definitely got what you paid for, a nice quick 20sec ride!
Bargain,
the boys took great delight in it…
hey someone had to do it!
Got dropped off at the markets, where we
walked around through the narrow alleyway,
being hassled from all directions.
Visited a quaint little restaurant for lunch which
was included… kebabs
-4 tiny pieces of meat, on metre long skewers and cuscus with an extremely hot chilli sauce.
(Note to self, don’t add sauce to entire meal before you’ve actually tried it!)
And sampled some mint tea.
Walked around a bit more, it was like the little kids were following us about the place, trying to sell all sorts of things, camels, drums, watches, wallets…
Luke and Brett with his drum, a bargin at 2 euro!
it was worse than in cairo.
The gang outside the carpet place, looking excited to be waiting
Saw a mini carpet demonstration, where of course no one bought anything, sometimes I wonder if anyone actually buys anything at these things.
Then we headed to a spice demonstration, with this evil man.
Who obviously hated us on sight, even more so when it became apparent that no one really wanted to buy any of his spices… he started throwing thing at us and hurling abuse at us…
It was like mate… that’s not going to make us buy things.
Missed out on seeing the snake charmer as he’d been bitten earlier and was in hospital.
Caught the ferry back to Tarifa at 5pm and headed back to our hotel for the night.
I think most of us headed to the supermarket and bought up big there and had a picnic in the courtyard at the hotel, just chilling out.
Some of the boys had a rather late night, arriving back moments before we were due to leave, seems the carnival down the road was still open at 6am, so they’d spent the remainder of the night annoying the Spanish there!
