It ended up being a fantastic day, stomping through the bush, getting bogged in muddy sections of the road, randomly picking up pom's who were bushwalking and making them wish they hadn't accepted a ride from us loonies!
Since i've begun traveling i've found i look out at the world in a whole new light.
I grew up with the bush as my next door neighbour (literally) and spent the majority of my younger years in there constantly getting up to all sorts of mischief... ie... making fairy houses under those grass like bushes (later to be realised we were sprinkling sparkles around spider holes!!), tree houses, jumps for bikes... nothing was too dangerous for us, we'd spend hours rolling about and tramping through unexplored sections, filling a hollowed out tree trunk with dried leaves and setting it alight... (we just wanted to toast marsmallows and didn't even think hey it's not just the leaves that will burn but the whole tree trunk!), throwing gumnuts at cars with open windows from behind trees (i still have fantastic aim!), and just creating havoc for anyone that dared cross out bush...
It's never really been something i've appreciated until now.. all those years i took it for granted
Col walking over the overflowing dam... it was mighty slipery
There's still nothing better than the silence the bush brings... the chirps of birds, cicadas, the swishing of the leaves in the breeze.
it's like an inner peace that just decends and makes you feel as if you're the only one there...well that is until we come along in 4WD's
It's funny how things down't change, the last time i was up this way was when i was about 5, my brother was still in nappies, and we have pictures of us hanging from the train window at the good old ZigZag Railway.. and here i am 20 years later and the same trains still here, still bring the same joy and excitment it brought to us all those years ago...
there was this little boy of 5 standing just off to the side of the track, truely petrified that he was going to be run over by the train, it was so cute listening to his dad try to explain that the train couldn't move sideways, that it had to run on the track... he still didn't look convinced when the train started to move!
Spent a good part of the day towing each other out of muddy patches..
Macho Col after he saved the day
the whole time i've been traveling, i've never been truely alone, there's always someone there, or you can hear people around...
The good old Blue Mountains
Nothing like bullet holes in a road sign, you're in OZ alright!
This was where we were meant to cross the river... it was so deep we had to bypass it... though only after we got bogged a few times!
It was a great day, i'm still feeling disgustingly dirty, and my feet look like i've dipped them in brown paint... even after scrubbing and scrubbing... mmm and i have scratches all over myself from trees and the likes...
nothing like tramping around in the bush for hours on end to make for an adventure filled day..
