On to Salzburg and the land of the sound of music!

up at the crack of dawn yet again, well not really but 7am when you're on holidays!

packed up and headed downstairs to check out.

walked up the road to the station and aught the 820 train from vienna to salzburg, in a cabin of 6 with 3 other austrians all with little gasp of the english language, so it was a pretty quiet trip.
read a fair bit of my book "marshmalls for breakfast"

arrived in salzburg to a beautiful sunny day at 11am, and after wandering around trying to find the correct bus, found it and headed out to my hostel. dropped my bags in the storage section and set off armed with a map of the city.

as i walked along the river, i couldn't wipe the smile off my face, nor get the sound of music songs out of my head!

had till 7pm to wait for shell and alice to arrive from rome.

so i headed out on a lakes and mountains tour and headed to st gillion and caught a boat for 45mins over to st wolfgang where we had an hour to look around before heading back to salzburg.

sky was a bit dreary but it was a lovely quaint village to visit... typical austrian houses, decked out with lovely flower filled baskets along the window sills.

just how i've always imagined austria should be.

headed to the train station afterwards and surprised shell and alice as they got off the train!

it was fantastic to look up and see to familliar faces looking at me!

went back to the hostel and checked in.

and headed out to explore.

they were having a festival to mark the first weekend of spring in the city center, and there were whole streets filled with little market carts, and stalls selling all sorts of things.

Austrian pretzels gallore and we got, apfel, cinnomen, and plains ones to share.. and ate them whilst strolling around the crowded streets


saw people drinking bright red beer, and tried to order it...

didnt quite get what we were expecting, but we got pins of steigl instead which was really good.

Alice got hassled and i got an interesting rub against someone in the human mish pit that became the street!

had some pomme fritts to share and then headed back to the hostel...

in bed relatively early at 1130pm...
