battled with peak hour traffic but managed to get to the hostel in a round about way...
i looked at the map at the tram station then proceeded to go the wrong way, until a lovely lady walking her daughter to school took pity on me and my heavy pack, and pointed in the other direction!!! :O)
dropped my bag off at the hostel and set out to make the most of my day in the city.
headed back into the city center and wandered around before catching the train up to the top of the mountain.
there would have been a lovely view though it was overcast and misty up ther so you could hardly see anything
wandered around a bit more before finding the church of zurich known for it's lovely stain glass windows..

they were definitely something to be seen, the pictures just didn't do them justice.

wandered around a little more before admitting that yes the others were right, there isn't a lot to see here!

and headed back to await the arrival of Shell and Alice.
they arrived about 5pm and we all checked in, staying in a dorm room of 5, and when we headed up to the room there was already someone in there asleep...
so with a fair amount of noise we dumpped our gear and attempted to make the top bunks, before feeling really guilty about making so much noise we headed out in search of something for dinner.
the hostel was offering a pasta dinner for 18 francs but thinking that was too expensive we deiceded to see what else was on offer. headed out along the street and it wasn't long before we realised that there wasn't going to be alot of other options, as a lot of the shops etc were shut.
found a supermarket that had just shut, and a few expensive cafes. so we decided to head back and get the pasta.
paid our 18 francs ($18 AUS) and got a bottle of drink, salad, plate of pasta with bolonagse sauce, and some tinned fruit for dessert, and took up residence in the back corner of the dinning hall.
being the illegal drinker i brought out the peach vodka that alice and shell had picked up cheap in italy, and we secretly drank it...
it was really good, pasta was nice tinned fruit was a little disappointing.
alice and shell were a little unsure about the drinking of the vodka, as we hadn't bought it there... i of course had no worry being the illegal drink pourer of the night!
but it didn't take them long to join the party!
ended up playing cards for hours and drinking the bottle dry!
started on a bottle of the cheapest white wine they had going that we got for a bargin of 11f at the bar and started playing spoons (a card game where you have to collect 4 of a kind then grab a spoon, once someone has got a spoon, everyone playing has to grab a remaining spoon, and the person who misses out, gets a letter)
we used our to empty drink bottles as spoons.
it was hilarious!
shell took the point when she went for the bottle somehow managing to elbow one 1/2 full glass of wine, which splattered up the wall before smashing on the floor... (very impressive... lucky it wasn't red) which was closely followed by another when she turned to look at what had happened!
after cleaning up our mess we decided to make a hasty exit from the scene of the crime and headed up to bead just after 1am!
