the weather man had predicted sunshine, but we were pleasantly surprised when we awoke to a cloud of mist followed by rain... but such is life in the land of Scotland.
so we set off..
heaaded north from edinburgh to Stirling.. were planning on going to see what all the fuss was about the castle, however that was when the heavens opened so instead we went to the wallace monument... (read... we got lost again, and couldn't find the castle and settled on the monument cause that was where we ended up! :O)
The wallace monument was built to honour Scotland's National hero William Wallace. It's fairly impressive and overlooks the scene of his famous victory at the battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297 on a good day you get a lovely view over stirling and the highlands... however today you were lucky to see 2m away, it was so misty.. we were the only two out and about this morning, we were there early though the actual monument hadn't even opened.
the walk up the hill was lovely though, through tthe little forest scattered with some brilliantly coloured autumn leaves.. i love autumn..

but i still am amused with the braveheart statue at the bottom... it's a bad replica of Mel Gibson that's for sure, and i love that they have a box of pre made noses in the little gift shop, as about once a week they have to replace it, because someones come along in the night and chiped it off!
Back in the car and headed east and into the The Trossachs, known as the mini highlands...
totally breathtaking even on such a misty and wet day..
Stopped in Aberfoyle, where they were having some ancient ritual reinactment, and picked up some sandwiches for lunch before carrying on to Balmaha, a delightlful little town nessled on the bonny bonny banks of Loch Lomond..
and we definitely weren't disappointed..
there was a lovely little walk along the side of the loch,
and there were some truely spectacular places..
i was mesmorised by this particular place it was just so peaceful there... it was like we were the only two people there... we were reminded that we weren't with the rather untimly arrival of two old grannies out for a sunday walk..
Had lunch along the way as we admired the great vast loch... i didn't realise it was so big..
stopped for a hot drink and to escape the cold at this cute little inn, with the welcoming sign of
from there we headed up to Loch Katrine,
which was equally beautiful..
we were too late to hire bikes so we just walked along the edge of the loch...
through the lovely autumn coloured trees..
there was this delightful old steam boat just leaving as we arrived...
it was just postcard perfect...
it ended up being a lovey day with just the two of us, a change from recent months...
with some beautiful scenery thrown in for good measure...
