8 Jobs in 13 months... is that too many

There's one thing many out there agree on: Changing jobs, is stressful business.
You're moving from the known to the unknown and here i am doing it almost monthly it would seem..

just as i get to know everyone and how things are done, it's time to pack the bags and head somewhere new...

I've never really suffered the stress of it all, to me it's just a new department in a different place.. thank goodness for that... today marks the start of my 8th job since arriving in the uk... wow...
my cv is certainly starting to fill up

while i love it, getting out and seeing all these amazing places, and helping out departments in need... sometimes enough is enough.. i'm kind of sick of feeling constantly like a student, struggling to learn the ropes...

I have it a bit easier in the fact that i'm changing jobs within the same profession it's less of an issue than full-scale career change. Radiography isnt a hard skill to master, come on i can do it!
it's more in working out what each department wants out of you... and how to get the machines to do what they're asking..

I work in two completely different areas, CT and General ... and while many of my skills and experience are transferrable. there are always things to learn...

take today for example, i'd been working in one of the xray rooms most of the morning, feeling brave i took a patient into another room to do some xrays... well this next room had a completely ancient machine... i'm talking should be in the hall of fame for being one of the first xray machines invented!
we're talking 1900's!
anyways do you think i can get the light to light up...
nope!
the patient was like, do you want me to sit out side while you figure it out?
i think my cursing of the machine had him feeling privlidged to have me xraying him! (way to fill a patient with confidence Ali!)
Lesson: Know how the machine works, before you touch it

another machine i was warned not to push the purple up and down button when a patient was near it, under any circumstances... i being one that likes to know why exactly...i tried it... needless to say i almost knocked myself out with the machine...

seems it's slightly on the possessed side, and likes to randomly fall on top of patients...

lesson learned: Listen to others warnings, they know things you don't!

nice one!

sometimes i dream of the good old days that i used to hate...

maybe it wasn't so bad where i was!

I've definitely learnt, it's okay to hold onto some of things you learnt in your previous jobs and use that knowledge in your new job. you just need to remember that every workplace has it's own way of doing things.

And also not to utter these words:

"That's not how we did it at my old company."

which i constantly do, and then i laugh at myself when i think that it's been over 14 months since i was even there!

Also I learnt not to pull sheets off patients hear, without asking if they're decent...

seems they like to feel free here, and 3/4 won't be wearing anything underneath that sheet....

nightmares tonight i think!

:O)
