Set off out of Edinburgh, with Douggie (driver & guide), and Tony (tea and coffee boy) and 22 other crazy fools off to the far north.
It wasn’t long before we were taking our first U turn of the tour, and before we’d even left the city itself!
It wasn’t long before we were passing over the shimmering water of the River Forth, and ahhing at the complexity of the Forth Bridge!
Leaving the city behind we were soon into the rolling hills of the highlands, driving through Perthshire, and on to Braemar.
Which was stunning.
After a snowfall the night before, everything was covered in fresh white snow.
Spent a little while just wandering around the town itself, marvelling at the snow!
Everything looks so stunning when coated with snow!
A quick stop by the side of the road in the snow covered mountains,
and an excuse to sample the fine delights of Scotland; Scottish whiskey & an impromptu snowball fight!
Next we headed north and visited Crathie Church.
The church the Royal Family worship at when they are in their Highland residence, Balmoral.
Before visiting the grave of John Brown.. Queen Victoria’s very close friend!
Next up was some mythical standing stones, as we made our way across to the east coast, and upwards to out destination Aberdeen!
(yes I did catch the bus down to Edinburgh only to turn around the next day and make my way back!)
Arriving in Aberdeen at 3pm we boarded the Ferry and settled into our cabins..
4 to a room, with no room at all.
No swinging cats around tonight!
(cabins are definitely the way to go, when you’re on a 12 hr crossing… there were people passed out all over the place..)
After a quick dinner in the café, and we took up residence in the front of the boat..
We picked up two stray Scottish lads in Aberdeen, friends of Tony, and Douggie, one a musician, the other an actor!
Much of the night was spent sitting around listening to Scottish folk music, by Davey, and Stuart, a surprise package with his ukulele, which was amazing…

It was a rather rough crossing, with gale force winds. Many people turned green and headed to bed early.
Nothing like laying in bed and physically moving from side to side with the force!
