So another day at the office, and multiple injuries to be had..
winner of the day goes to the young man that managed to dislocate his coccyx (ie tailbone for those playing at home...)
i'll give points on who can guess how he managed to do it...
it involves icecream..... well kind of...
go on have a guess!
Many of you may or may not have experienced having an xray taken..
one thing we like to do, is leave relatives or friends outside the room...
we are using radiation people...
radiation...
the rays that destroy fast growing cells, such as sperm, and marrow...that's known to cause cancer with large dose's etc...
if your Doctor thinks that you need an xray he will order you one, you don't have to share one with your friend..
it's really not that interesting inside our little xray room either... it's dark, and cold and if i wasn't getting paid i wouldn't spend my day in there... it's BORING!
we're not taking your friend into the games room,or the world of willy wonka and his chocolate factory (though that would be nice), and i assure you we will give them back... we generally don't like to keep people... they start to smell after awhile..
plus when you do come in all you do is get in the way... there's only enough room behind our little lead screen for us...
also if we've painstakingly put you in a position... try hold it... we're not doing it for fun, it's waht we need to do for the xray... hold still... it'll be over in a few seconds... no really, you don't need to move them...
no i'm not going to show you the xrays i just took and tell you what they show... that's not my job, i'm a radiographer... not a Doctor... (unless of course you are a hot young male... then i might try keep you there as long as i can, and of course you need to remove your shirt for me to xray you finger... cotton acts like a magnet and diverts the beam, better leave it off until i've checked everythings ok!....)
do not ask me 50000 different ways what they showed... i'm not thick... i see what you're trying to do, you're definitely not the first, or the most creative... points for trying... but you're wasting your time..
seriously most of the time we only glanced at them for a second, if at all.. and make sure we've got what we want on the picture... ie all your toes if we're looking at your feet...
be on your merry way..
Today i got the pleasure of xraying a young lady, she spoke no english, and came with her two children of about 4 and her husband who also spoke no english..
up for a challenge i got her changed... one child was cute, and fitted neatly into one of those shopping baskets...
the cute factor vanished the moment i took mum into the room.... no the children can't come in... fine i locked them out... she seems fine with that...
i mime what i want her to do,
the husband somehow came in with the children in tow, and i thought whatever... and carried on...
then the evil sporn start screaming... and running about the place.
i mean ear numbing screaching... i couldn't hear a thing, people came running... i think they had decided that i was murdering them in there... (trust me i was trying not too..)
i'm used to kids screaming i taught learn to swim for too may years, i tried to tune it out...
the dad just stands there watching them...doesn't do a thing...
it's loud screaming when you cant hear the high pitched beep the xray machine makes to say the xrays taken... i just had to guess..
we had a fair few xrays to take, and everytime i turned around to take the next, a different child was being breast fed
i was like what the...
not really sure where to look...
these kids were almost school aged... it just looked wrong
then they'd scream again...
then when we'd finished xraying what do you know... they stopped...
i so don't get paid enough money for this....

HAHA. You get all the good stories. How did the guy break himself using icecream? That seems like quite an achievment... although he probably just slipped on it and fell backwards, right? I've hurt my cocyxc (Oh look, worst spelling ever) before, falling backwards rollerskating.
Those kids sound like a nightmare, I would have been angry at them.
You never explained the coxyx vs. ice cream story
amanda- They are difficult to break, that's why this guy won... i'm still confused as to how he managed it... it requires such force... and let's just say he didn't slip!
jadey-the whole point was for you to guess..
i'll update it later :O)
be creative... he was!
I predict that he laid out a long sheet of plastic sheeting, and covered it with runny ice-cream so he could slip slide down it, but an unfortunate accident happened. Either that or the ice-cream was for lubrication and that opens up a whole host of other explanations..
