Set off for the airport with a manic taxi driver at 4am, that played chicken with a bald guy driving a red mini most of the way
checked in amongst the plane full of aussies and kiwi's all off to commemorate Anzac day in Gallipoli. There were only about 4 Turkish on the plane. Flight passed relatively quick being just 5hrs, watched the golden compass, before being fed the most inedible meal ever... floating omelette in olive juice anyone???
Arrived into Istanbul and passed through immigration after purchasing the 20 USD visa (note Aussies need to pay in USD, British can pay in pounds but not Australians, and Kiwi' get in free!) and were met by the Fez representatives after we picked up our bags.
We then had to sit and wait for a few other flights to land before catching buses to our various hotels.
Met Jess and Sarah who were also on my tour at check in, and then met my room mate for the trip Meredith in the room
Dropped our things off before going in search of the Grand Bazaar, and haggled with the best of them.
Our first encounter with Turkish lads..
"Hello sexy my name is Pepsi"
"Hello spice girl"
After wandering through one section of the markets we decided to grab some lunch at one of the stalls, settling on Turkish style Kebabs, as the saying goes, when in Turkey!"
The were good, it was interesting to people watch too, you had the guys trying to sell perfume, and fake Gucci watches, along with the locals selling Turkish tea to the shop owners, the guys don't really stand in their shop, but the front chatting away to the man next to him.
wandered around a little more before stumbling across a water pipe place, where we spent the next few hours drinking apple tea and smoking the infamous flavored water pıpe (AKA Shıesha) - strawberry ıs my favorite flavour so far. For something that is only flavoured tobacco ıt sure gıves you a head spın.
A crazy little Turkish man latched on to us, and made for an amusing afternoon...
Headed back to the hote,l with thoughts of heading back there again before we leave.
Met downstairs in the Bar at 7pm, where we got to met Aran our tour guide for the trip... seems odd... but we'll see... before heading down to the pub/hostel street for free drinks at the Sultan Bar...
The Bar was pumping with a collection of Aussies and Kiwi's on the other Fez bus trips, all out for a great start to the trip
had my first taste of the local Ecls Beer.. not the greatest tasting but ok. The bar had an awesome roof top area, which seemed to take forever to get too, must have been at least 7 flights of stairs... not a good one to fall down!
Ended up leaving around 11pm in search of some dinner, all the restaurants were open, must be the way it is...
Had Turkish pide and the best Turkish bread mmm yum, so much food
before heading back to the hotel
